My current position on the Rutgers University Board of Governors gives me a wonderful opportunity to exercise both my psychological and leadership skills. It gives me an inside look at the running of a major research university with an annual budget of almost $4 billion. I also get the chance to both speak up about GSAPP and keep an eye on our interests. For several years, I’ve had the privilege of chairing the Health Affairs Committee, which has the responsibility for the integration of the two medical schools into Rutgers, and the development of Rutgers Health, which you’ll all be hearing more about in the near future. It has been exciting to branch out from leadership in psychology. Lawyers, bankers, and corporate types think differently than psychologists, and bringing psychology to them has been an interesting and rewarding challenge.
