On Saturday, November 16, Dr. Kate Fiske, Clinical Associate Professor at GSAPP and Associate Director of Academic Training and Family Support Services at the DDDC, was invited to present at the Missouri Association for Behavior Analysis Conference in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Fiske's presentation, "Supporting Parents of Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Behavior Analytic Settings," was well received. During the presentation, Dr. Fiske summarized research on the impact of raising a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the mental health and relationships of parents. The summary describes the emotional reactions of parents in response to their child’s early diagnosis and during the various stages of childhood development. Throughout the presentation, Dr. Fiske talked about concrete strategies for building and maintaining rapport with parents during treatment.
