Dr. Vanessa Bal, GSAPP Associate Professor and Karmazin and Lillard Endowed Chair in Adult Autism, and colleagues recently published a paper examining parent-reported suicidal ideation in more than 21,000 Korean school-aged children drawn from three epidemiologically-ascertained samples. Findings highlight the importance of screening for suicidal ideation in school-aged children with autism diagnoses and children who may have higher degrees of social difficulties, especially when they have elevated levels of anxiety.
