Please have the following:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree with a preferable major of psychology
- An excellent scholastic record
- CV/resume
- Recommendations from at least 3 people who can attest to your academic and personal qualifications
- Personal Statement (submitted electronically) - describing your experiences related to, and your commitment to, pursuing a career in professional psychology and a doctoral degree. Page length: 1.5-2 pages, approximately 750 – 1000 words.
- The completion of these required courses (with at least 1 lab component):
- A. Introduction to psychology
- B. Statistics
- C. Abnormal psychology
- D. Biological bases of psychology
- Biopsychology is the science of the biological bases of human behavior, the field that concerns itself with linking function with brain structure. This science is also sometimes referred to as “functional neuroanatomy” or “behavioral neuroanatomy”. It is impossible to understand human behavior without some level of understanding of the physical structure of the brain, the organ that enables behavior.
- E. 1 to 2 courses in the following areas:
- i. cognitive psychology
- ii. psychology of perception
- iii. conditioning, and learning
- iv. developmental psychology; psychology of personality
- v. social psychology
Note: The School Psychology PsyD programs do NOT require the General nor Psychology GRE for admissions.
We do not provide feedback about a prospective applicant’s undergraduate curriculum to determine whether applicants meet any of the above criteria this includes pre-requisite courses. During the admissions process, each applicant will be asked to describe how they have met each criteria, or will meet each criteria, prior to matriculation in any doctoral program. It will be up to each candidate to describe how their prior coursework meets the content requirements above. During the interview process or once an applicant is offered admission, the program will give feedback to individual students.
