Cross-Cultural Occupational Stress & Health Research Lab (COSHR Lab)

Mission

The Cross-Cultural Occupational Stress & Health Research Lab (COSHR Lab), led by Dr. Sharon Glazer, focuses on various research programs such as Meaningfulness in Life (MIL), Type A Behavior Pattern, Diversity Across Cultures, Implications of Financial Stressors, and Translation Processes.

Director, Dr. Sharon Glazer

Dr. Sharon Glazer is an internationally known professor and researcher of cross-cultural organizational psychology. Prior to joining Rutgers University, she held academic positions at San José State University, University of Maryland Center for Advanced Study of Language (a DoD research thinktank), and The University of Baltimore.

Meaningfulness in Life (MIL)

Meaningfulness in Life (MIL) serves as a moderator in the relationship between workplace ostracism and turnover intention. The tasks include reviewing and copy-editing the manuscript, updating the literature review, formatting tables and figures, and identifying appropriate journals for submission.

Meaningfulness in Life

MIL Continued

The research explores the connection between Meaningfulness in Life (MIL) and Meaning in Subjective Experience (MISE), as well as their interplay with challenge/hindrance (C-H) appraisals and self-efficacy. It examines the moderating effects of MIL, MISE, and C-H appraisals on stressor-outcome and values-outcome relationships. Additionally, the study investigates MIL’s role in perceptions of organizational trust, psychological safety, and as a moderator in the relationship between abusive leadership and turnover intention.

Tasks include preparing the IRB protocol, selecting a research topic, coordinating with translators (in English), conducting a literature review, interfacing with CloudResearch, managing and cleaning data, and supporting data analysis.

Meaningfulness in Life

MIL Value

The study also explores how patriotism and nationalism values influence feelings of acceptance, which subsequently impact Meaningfulness in Life (MIL) and a sense of belonging, ultimately shaping deviant behaviors.

Tasks include identifying and organizing potential measures in Excel, conducting a literature review, preparing the survey in Word and Qualtrics, and preparing IRB documentation.

Diversity Across Cultures: An Organizational Lens

Explores how diversity is understood and addressed in organizations globally. This involves examining different census categories around diversity in various countries, understanding the cultural definitions of diversity, assessing the significance of diversity in organizations worldwide, and identifying the challenges multinational organizations face in managing diversity.

Tasks include scouring academic and government sources to gather data on these topics.

Language Translations: Is AI Just as Good?

Investigates the effectiveness of AI-powered translations compared to traditional methods. The study involves a literature review, gathering measures already translated by principal investigators (PIs), documenting the translation process for each measure, and subjecting English-language measures to both Google Translate and other AI translation tools for comparison.

Tasks include preparing the IRB protocol, interfacing with CloudResearch to gather data, and managing the data collection process.
