Dr. Connie Hoyos-Nervi

Constanza Hoyos Nervi, Psy.D., a graduate of the Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University (Clinical '98), is an assistant teaching professor in the Clinical Department. She serves as the Assistant Director for Clinical Training and Practicum Coordinator for the Clinical Program. In this role, she advises graduate students on issues related to clinical training and professional development. Her primary focus is developing and overseeing practicum/externship placement. She communicates with training directors, manages contracts and records and provides day-to-day oversight for practica. Dr. Hoyos Nervi works to develop, expand and support training opportunities where students develop  professional competencies under the supervision of licensed psychologists in clinical settings that align with student interests and training goals. 

Dr. Hoyos Nervi represents GSAPP in the New York, New Jersey Directors of Clinical Training (NYNJADOT) and Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey Directors of Training (PENDELDOT) consortiums. She has served as Chair of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Directors of Clinical Training Consortium and currently serves on NYNJADOT’s grievance committee. 

Dr. Hoyos Nervi teaches courses in Learning Theory and Cognitive Behavioral Foundations as well as Training, Supervision and Consultation for the Clinical Department. In addition, she runs Supervision CBT groups for first year clinical students. In the past, she coordinated practicum and taught a practicum course in the MAP program and was an assistant professor of psychiatry at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where she supervised post-doctoral fellows, psychology externs and psychiatry residents and taught medical students. In that role, Dr. Hoyos Nervi coordinated several NIH-funded national conferences in Latino mental health and was an integral part of the research team for various NIH-funded grants. She has published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in the areas of somatization and Latino mental health. She has a volunteer faculty appointment at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry and maintains a private practice. Dr. Hoyos Nervi's interests are understanding the role of culture and acculturation issues, working with individuals who suffer from mood and/or anxiety disorders, and integrated care/behavioral medicine.
