Dr. Preston Lindsay

Bio
Dr. Preston Lindsay is an organizational psychologist who is deeply committed to bringing about systemic change and promoting social justice within organizations. His work blends various perspectives, including systems thinking, Black feminist thought, social constructionism, and cognitive organizational neuroscience, to create inclusive and healing solutions for organizations. A major focus of his research is on organizational trauma, exploring the emotional and psychological impact of harmful events—such as toxic leadership, chronic stress, or systemic oppression—on both individuals and the larger organizational culture.
At Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP), Dr. Lindsay serves as an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice. There, he mentors doctoral students in applied organizational psychology, helping them develop the tools to tackle systemic inequities and foster meaningful change within organizations. His teaching style is rooted in the belief that education is a powerful tool for liberation and transformation. He uses experiential methods like gamification and case-based simulations to keep students engaged, allowing them to actively apply what they learn in real-world situations. His approach is designed to inspire students to become leaders who can create more inclusive, just, and transformative organizations.
Over the past decade, Dr. Lindsay has held faculty appointments in organizational science graduate programs at various institutions, where he has nurtured his strong belief in the power of education to drive societal change.
In addition to his teaching, Dr. Lindsay is the Founder and Director of the Organizational Trauma Intervention Studies Lab at GSAPP. The lab focuses on researching and developing strategies to help organizations address and heal from the trauma caused by harmful practices and environments. By helping organizations recognize and work through these challenges, the lab aims to create healthier, more supportive, and resilient organizational cultures.
Dr. Lindsay also teaches as a Clinical Professor of Psychology at the University of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City and serves as an Affiliated Faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Liberal and Professional Studies, Organization Dynamics Programs. His work across these institutions bridges the gap between academic research and real-world application, ensuring that his students, organizations, and communities benefit from his expertise in organizational psychology.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Lindsay is the Founder and President of The Lindsay Group Co., a consulting firm dedicated to helping organizations overcome systemic challenges and create healthier workplace dynamics. Through his firm, Dr. Lindsay and his team work to guide organizations toward lasting, transformative change that empowers individuals and organizations to thrive together.
Dr. Lindsay holds a Ph.D. in Business Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial Organizational Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he completed his dissertation on “Organizational Traumatization: A Phenomenological Study of the Worker’s Consciousness and Cognitive Experience” under the guidance of Dr. Ann Romosz. He also earned an M.S. in Management & Organizational Development with emphasis in Human Factors from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he wrote his thesis on “Can Transformational Leadership Ensure the Sustainability of Nonprofits in Times of Uncertainty,” with mentorship from Prof. Kimo Kippen.
A proud native of Camden, NJ, Dr. Lindsay now lives in New York City with his American Staffordshire Terrier, Ratatouille. A lifelong fan of Star Trek, he embraces the philosophy of "Live Long and Prosper."
