Belén Gamiño
Belén is a graduate student interested in researching the mental and physical health disparities among undocumented and refugee populations. As a first-generation immigrant herself, she hopes to find ways to help close the gaps in access to culturally appropriate care for these groups, particularly due to her proximity to the southern border. Belén’s thesis focuses on DACA and undocumented college students and their decision to disclose their status on campus, through the lens of Privacy Management Theory, and how this decision relates to their well-being. These findings provide a better understanding of how these students navigate the disclosure process and their needs while attending higher education institutions. Outside of school, Belén enjoys watching sports, hiking, and making jewelry.
