Dr. Edward M. Adams

Bio
Dr. Edward M. Adams earned his undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor inphilosophy from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He continued at Xavier for hismaster's degree in school psychology and worked as a school psychologist in Cincinnatiand Findlay, Ohio, for five years. Ed then pursued his doctorate in psychology at GSAPP,graduating in 1979. During his time at GSAPP, he served as the president of the studentorganization, initiated and edited The Professional Psychology Review, and helped lay thefoundation for the GSAPP alumni association.
After earning his doctorate, Ed worked as a schoolpsychologist in Bridgewater, New Jersey, and atthe Multimodal Institute in Princeton. Heobtained his New Jersey psychology license in1982 and opened a private practice, Associates inPsychological Services (APS), in 1984.
APS thrived for over 30 years, providingpsychotherapy to children and adults. Eventually,Ed left APS to open a solo practice, allowing himto balance his time between psychology and hiswork as a professional artist.
Recognizing a lack of psychological services for men, Ed focused on issues related to menand masculinity, forming a group that evolved into the not-for-profit organization MenMentoring Men (M3). His work gained popularity, leading him to become active in theAmerican Men's Studies Association and APA's Division 51, where he served as presidentfrom 2016 to 2019.
During his tenure, he emphasized compassion in healthy masculinity, secured a grant fora national conference, and contributed to the Guidelines for the Treatment of Men andBoys. Ed continues to participate in a professional psychologist men's group for ongoingdevelopment and support.
