Dr. Sandra N. Gomez

Dr. Sandra N. Gomez is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP). She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Cornell College, her M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri–Columbia, and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a Spanish Bilingual Concentration from Teachers College, Columbia University. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the University of Miami Counseling Center and a postdoctoral clinical fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Gomez’s clinical, teaching, and scholarly interests center on identity development, acculturation, culturally responsive mental health care, and the educational and career experiences of historically marginalized communities, with a specific focus on Latine populations in the United States. Her clinical experience spans inpatient hospital settings, college counseling centers, community mental health, and work with high-performance athletes, couples, and Spanish-speaking populations.

Dr. Gomez is a former APA Interdisciplinary Minority Fellow and Kellogg Legacy Doctoral Mentoring Scholar. She serves on the Leadership Council of the National Latinx Psychological Association (NLPA) and has contributed as a reviewer for the Journal of Latinx Psychology.
