Dr. Daniel Mitteer

Dan Mitteer, Ph.D., BCBA-D is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a contributing faculty member in the Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, where he has taught Basic Principles of Behavior Analysis. Dr. Mitteer’s primary appointment is at the Children's Specialized Hospital - Rutgers University Center for Autism Research, Education, and Services (CSH - RUCARES), where he oversees cases involving the assessment and treatment of severe destructive behavior. Dr. Mitteer completed his M.A., Ph.D., and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Munroe-Meyer Institute, where he also served as a faculty member. Dr. Mitteer serves on the editorial board for Behavior Analysis: Research and Practice and a routine ad-hoc reviewer for flagship journals such as the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA) and Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior (JEAB), journals in which he also regularly publishes research. Dr. Mitteer's primary research interest is in experimentally analyzing and improving caregiver treatment adherence to behavioral interventions, with related projects resulting in funding from the Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis and the University of Nebraska Foundation. His current aim is to better refine treatments and trainings to mitigate both the relapse of child and caregiver behavior after clinical discharge. Dr. Mitteer has worked to develop training materials (e.g., graphing, arranging empirically supported treatments in speech-generating devices) for the field of behavior analysis and related disciplines, which have been published in journals such as JABA and Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
